Jered, you’re sadly mistaken. Govt, for example, only gives us about 4% of new medical innovation. Everything — everything — comes from a for profit private sector system. My guess is that you kinda like all the new treatments and live-sustaining medicines and solutions — you just want someone else to pay for it.

Most health care $ is spent in the later years of life,the period of time during which people receive care via taxpayer-funded govt health care,which they love enough2storm town hall meetings all over the country defending.Since taxpayers,thru this&other programs,pay for individual care when health care is most costly,why in the world would the premiums of the healthy go2 a separate,private entity that is less efficient &denies,rescinds&bankrupts us at every turn? The health and life …
The health and life span of Americans vs. British or French people has nothing to do with free healthcare or free insurance. Plenty of social, dietary, and lifestyle issues determine how healthy people are.
We could give every American free healthcare and we would still have the same number of drug addicted, white trash rednecks who feed their kids Cheetos and Mountain Dew. The only difference is that everybody else would be forced to pay for THEIR health problems.

There’s no such thing as “free” anything when it comes from government. Government gets its money by stealing the citizen’s hard earned income through income taxes. Canada and the UK might have universal “coverage” but they don’t have universal ACCESS to health care, because of rationing.
People forget this one little important fact: THE US GOVERNMENT IS BROKE. Our national debt is $9 trillion. The US dollar will be worthless and some idiots think we can have free healthcare. What a joke.

blingbling65943 – You conveniently forget to mention that those Canadian tax rates are cumulative, It’s not just a separate tax bracket for each income level, like what we have in the US. You also conveniently left out the provincial (i.e. state) income tax rates. After you add all that, Canada DOES pay higher personal income tax rates than the US, especially since some US states don’t even have a personal income tax.

The current American healthcare system may be innovative, but it is also corrupt. People in Canada and England may have to wait, but they still have longer life spans than the average American. Also, France has the number 1 healthcare system in the world (whereas the US ranks 37th), so maybe we should not concern ourselves with Canada and England at all, but instead model a US Healthcare system based on a France’s system.

PLS Note and always Remember that health insurance companies would NEVER want any CHANGE or SOLUTION.
Unlike some of us, insurance companies fight together (using web or media propaganda, lobbying, etc.) to protect & continue their billion dollar profit schemes.
We should unite, pray, and work for solutions.

uhmm.. this is kinda bit misleading in a way… because those said innovations or “miracles” were made by doctors/researchers/pharmaceutical companies etc. EXCEPT or NOT by Health Insurance companies.
insurance companies make money (lots of it) by:
1. paying as littlest as possible,
2. not covering you when you most need it (worst: dropping you from their system and/or deny you coverage in the future),
and
3. hoping you don’t get sick (which is near to impossible).
