March 17, 2003 – Stephen Harper, then leader of the Conservative Opposition, attacks Jean Chretien’s Liberal government for listening to the majority of Canadians and not overtly supporting or sending combat troops into Bush’s war in Iraq. The United Nations did not support the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, called the war illegal in 2004.

Massive demonstrations in Quebec and Canada against the impending war in Iraq forced the Liberals to make this public statement against the war in 2003. Chretien’s government did send military and command support into the Gulf, and made a deal with the Bush Administration to send a large contingent of combat troops into Afghanistan instead of Iraq (2,500 Canadian troops are currently serving in Kandahar until 2011; as of mid-June 2008, 85 soldiers had been killed).

Harper and his Conservative party (now the minority Government of Canada) strongly advocate for war in the Middle East, have successfully pushed through increases in military spending in Canada as requested by the Bush Administration, and promote a repressive security state that targets Arabs, Muslims and ethnic minorities who do not support their aggressive neo-conservative agenda.

Conservatives Stephen Harper and Stockwell Day are closely tied to the Republican Bush Administration in the United States. Harper and Day’s election and political campaigns are heavily funded by oil, gas, defence and conservative lobby groups, both in Canada and the United States.

The US federal government has made strong preparations for “continuity of government” in the event of a national catastrophe. A full army brigade is now on active duty within domestic borders, and the Bush administration has issued a directive which allows the president to coordinate all three branches of the federal government in such an event. The Real News spoke to Bruce Fein.

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 7, 2009
After listening to those disgusting comments about Canada and our proud military by those idiots on Fox News, this slideshow shows how Canada honors its fallen heros – who have died in Afghanistan – UPDATED SEPTEMBER 7 – 129 to date – 126 brave men and 3 brave women each and every time they arrive home in Canada – along the government re-named Highway of Heroes between Trenton and Toronto. As an adult child of a Navy veteran who spent 5 years of his life on the NORTH ATLANTIC in a small corvette during WW 2 fighting the Nazis, you and all your pals should be ashamed!!!! And I am the very proud Aunt of a nephew Mark who, with a Master’s Degree in War Studies from the Royal Military College in Kingston Ontario VOLUNTEERED to go and serve in Afghanistan. Canadians are justly outraged. …OH …and by the way.. I was never SO PROUD when the Canadian Government made the decision on behalf of Canadians NOT to support YOUR war against IRAQ! That was the right decision as history will show.

2006/04/11/Human rights watch and other groups have reported very clearly that there has been intimidation going on within the Tamil community in Canada,” Day told reporters Monday afternoon.

Listing the Tamil Tigers under the Criminal Code means that any groups or individuals associated with them are also vulnerable to prosecution. It also means it is a criminal offence to participate in the activities of the Tigers, with a punishment of up to 10 years in prison.

“The decision to list the LTTE is long overdue and something the previous government did not take seriously enough to act upon,” Day said in a release.

Canadian government is clearly determined to take decisive steps to ensure the safety of Canadians against terrorism.”

Texas Senator Dan Patrick announces that Texas has placed its National Guard on “High Alert” – The first time in Modern History, due to the Civil War breaking out in Mexico. Texas has received NO response from the Federal Government to its repeated requests for help. If the National Guard is forced to take defensive action against a Foreign Nation without the approval of the Federal Government, Texas will be breaking Federal Law. WHY DOESN’T THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MATCH ITS CLAIMS AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACT?

This video is not posted, referenced or mentioned on FoxNews’ website or any other major media outlet. It has been announced on several independent sites, first on http://patriotsforamerica.ning.com/ then the video finally got posted on http://www.xomba.com/texas_national_guard_high_alert_breaking_news, and most didn’t believe it. Seems like we talk a lot about not trusting the Mainstream Media but still can’t take those claims all the way.
